'Smart mob' tech spurs student activism

'Smart mob' tech spurs student activism
School leaders have a new tech phenomenon to contend with

By Nora Carr, APR

Many of the tens of thousands of college and university student activists that swarmed Jena, La., on Sept. 20 to protest the town's racial inequality were mobilized through information and communication technologies, representing what's known as a "smart mob." The phenomenon, which many believe symbolizes the democratization of the media, is being more widely used in schools across the country, by school leaders and students alike.

Leave No Gifted Child Behind

Besides being a certified special education teacher, I earned a gifted ed endorsement as well, and taught G & T (gifted and talented) math and science. However, many programs across the country are now being cut. Many G & T students have their accelerated classes cut, and have been placed in general education courses for science in math now. They are often thought to just fend for themselves because they… Continue

Hi Mechelle!

Everyone at Metaverse U last weekend seemed to be on Facebook, so I got into the spirit and added a bunch of new friends. I saw an old message from you, but the link wouldn't work. Are you still on there?

Tia Carr Williams contacted me about a project she has in mind, and I recommended that she get in touch with you. It's about physically challenged students, I believe, and involves virtual worlds. She mainly does business through Facebook, but she is on this network with us, and I think on at least one of Nellie's. I'll tell her which ones, but you can also drop her a line if you have time.

Cheers!
